September 7th, 2024 marks the first anniversary of the day I was to receive the first of many payments for a service agreement between The Writers Tree and myself, to market, print, and distribute 8000 copies of my book "Cape Coral Burrowing Owls Don't Hoot. Until yesterday, no attempt by The Writers Tree has been made to pay the $146,844 in royalties for the book. On September 19th, low and behold there was a $4128. 00 entry in to my bank account where these royalties were to be paid. Boy was I excited! Finally after a year of broken promises to pay, I finally received some money. The transaction said "pending" which is to be expected, and later that day the transaction said, "available". I attempted to transfer the funds to another of my bank accounts to begin paying the mounting credit card bills generated paying The Writers Tree. An error message appeared stating I didn't have enough money in my account to make the transfer. STRANGE! So, I thought I would wait until morning and try again. In the morning, I logged on to my bank account and the $4000 entry was totally GONE! I was totally confused, so I called the bank and was told that the transaction was denied because I indeed did not have enough money to cover to transaction and the $4128.00 WITHDRAWAL was also denied due to lack of funds. What I didn't notice was a small negative sign in front of the amount. The $4128.00 was an attempt to withdraw that money from my account and not deposit it from the account. Unfortunately, I did not take a screenshot of my account to fully document this fraudulent transaction.

I am too angry at this time to speak to my representative at The Writers Tree, but I am sure I will be told it was an honest mistake. Whatever it is, I am done with this company. I am revising this entire website to show the tangled weave they have woven, including the family tree which so far is 6 websites that are connected each other.

Latest update. Part of the services The Writers Tree was to provide was an audio book. After waiting 14 months for it to be done, i asked for a refund which I never received. I did a bank charge back and I was informed that if I didn't pay them the $4000 they would cancel my account. Which The Writers Tree, did refusing to give me a 100% money back guarantee as they promised or $140,000 in royalties on they owed me.

“Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.”

This eloquent phrase captures a universal truth: When we engage in deception or dishonesty, we unwittingly set in motion a complex web of complications that can spiral out of control. It’s like pulling a single thread—soon the whole fabric unravels.

The Family Tree

Thanks to one of the employees at The Writers Tree, I was told that Visionary Book Writers is the mother company for The Writers Treehsit. In researching these companies, have found many links connecting the five companies listed below. Please click on the company name to get the scoop on all these companies. Extensive documentation for The Writers Tree is shown below this list, so that link is not active.

The Writers Tree Review

Don't Get Scammed!

Disclaimer: The purpose of this website is to show you how to critically review a website and a business before you invest your hard earned money. In no way am I suggesting that The Writers Tree company does not have good business practices, I am just using them because they are the company I am most familiar with. My one year Service Agreement is over and to date, I have received no payments from them. I can show concrete examples of what you need to look out for when searching for a company to help bring your literary work out to the world.

First Things First!

The very first thing that needs to be done is to get a copyright for your literary work. Click on the link below to go to the U. S Copyright office. To begin the registration process. It is not very complicated and is inexpensive. It costs between $45.00 -65.00 if you do it yourself, $100 if you respond to one of the advertisements in Google and $300-400 to have an attorney do the filing. Below is the basic fee schedule.

Below is a copy of the $900 .00 receipt from The Writers Tree. They provided the service of applying for the copyright for my book and submitting it to the Library of Congress. To the right is the simple fee schedule for registering a literary work.

By the way, while you are at it, register your literary work with the Library of Congress (LCCN). Its free and gives you added protection against copyright infringement.

Finding Out About a Business.

The next step is to find out as much as you can about a business. Start by going to the website WhoIs. This will provide information about who owns the domain name you are researching, when the domain was purchased and an address of the company. For a fee a business can have some of this information hidden from public view. There is limited information garnered from this site but the date the website was created and where the domain was registered is found here.

From the information gathered from WhoIs, we learned that the domain name TheWritersTree.com was registered two years ago on March 29, 2022 and that the address used to register The Writers Tree is in Iceland. The rest of the information about the company is protected from view.

Other Places to Check

The Writers Tree lists its place of business as Florida. Sunbiz.org is the State of Florida's business registry. Doing a search for The Writers Tree comes up negative in the State's database.

A search in the New York Secretary of State's listing of businesses also fails to list The Writers Tree.

Another place to check is OpenCorporates. com. Doing a search on this national business database comes up empty also.

Discrepancies

Read the company website carefully and it is possible to find discrepancies in information provided. An example shown to the left states The Writers Tree has been in business for three years. Remember what you learned from the WhoIs search giving the date the domain name was registered as 3/29/2022? As pf the inquiry I made to WhoIs. the domain name was only registered two years prior.

Another page says The Writers Tree has been in business for 15 years.??????T

Interesting enough, the photo above also states The Writers Tree has over 150 Internationally Acclaimed Titles. In January of 2024, after not receiving my royalties, I was assigned a new contact person at The Writers Tree, Jay Brown promised he would get to the bottom of the reason I was not getting paid. After much back and forth with Jay, he told me that the reason I wasn't getting paid was that I needed to apply for copyrights for all the countries my book was to be published. He said that this was not something he had known about and needed to be done. I was quoted over $5000 for copyrights for 8 or so countries, I told him I wasn't going to pay that amount since the company owed me so much money and the interest rates were mounting on the credit cards for the $60,000 I had already paid for the printing and marketing of the book. Non-payment was holding up the payments, so I was over a barrel. I negotiated the price down, telling Jay that I didn't want the book distributed in countries that would have no interest in my book. One of the countries that the book was to be distributed to was Israel. I felt that they were occupied with far greater things than reading about an Owl that only lived in Florida.

If The Writers Tree had 150+ Internationally Acclaimed Titles why didn't they know about this fee ahead of time?? In researching this matter, I found that some countries honor a U.S. copyright, others may not. International copyright laws have only been in effect since 1710 ( no that is not a typo!). So how come I was the first to have a problem with The Writers Tree concerning International Copyright issues.?

Telephone Numbers

Paying for a company that advertises they will find all kinds of information about a person, is generally of no use when you only have a phone number. Most of the time the phone number is a cell phone, and it is difficult to find the owner of a cellphone. Just doing a Google search of the phone number can bring up some interesting information.
.

The Writers Tree has at least 15 different telephone numbers listed on their website, used in communications or cross referenced with the three other companies they appear to have affiliations. 718-516-5017 is the phone number listed on their website. In addition they have the following telephone numbers either on the website, found doing a Google search for the company or in their emails:

354-421-2434 276-881-6134 276-881-6134

904-590-7645 805-392-3325 954-686-3836

332-222-0299 954-355-7200 954-231-8456

904-596-7645 954-248-3537 954-686-3835

Interestingly, three other companies come up when doing a Google search. Visionary Book Writers, Ace Publishing Hub, and Professionals Ghostwriting. The domains of all three of these companies are registered at the same address in Reykjavik, Iceland as is The Writers Tree.

Company Review Sites

Trust Pilot is a reputable site where individuals can post reviews on a product or company that they have used or been in contact. Trust Pilot makes every effort to eliminate fake reviews. The Writers Tree has over 80 reviews posted on Trust Pilot. At the top of the page listing The Writers Tree reviews is the following statement:

We’ve found out that this company has been displaying Trustpilot content incorrectly.

This includes displaying the Trustpilot brand in a misleading way: like our name or logo, TrustScore, star rating, widgets, reviews, and other brand content.

We take the integrity of our platform very seriously. When we uncover misuse, we take action and alert our community.

Statistics

I took took 61 of the first reviews for The Writers Tree and ran every name through 3 book sales sites, Amazon, GoodReads and Books a Million. In my service agreement it states that my book would be distributed to Barnes and Noble, Books a Million, schools, libraries and more.

On Amazon 19 of the 61 names are listed as having books published by Amazon and other various publishers. Two of the books list The Writers Tree as the publisher.

On Good Reads, 8 of the names appear for sale on that site. None list The Writers Tree as the publisher, but my service agreement does not list Good Reads as a distributer they use.

On Books a Million, only 10 names appear and none list The Writers Tree as the publisher.

I am not sure what these statistics mean. Of the 61 reviews, a total of 23 of the names showed as publishing their book. With the more common name, I can't be sure that the book listed it is the person that wrote the review.

These people may have worked with The Writers Tree in some capacity as the company provides many services to authors. Writers , such as myself, would be listed as an Independent Publisher and would have used the services of The Writers Tree so The Writers Tree would not be listed as the publisher.

It will be interesting to see what Trust Pilot does in the future after posting the caveat at the top of the page stating that The Writers Tree is using reviews inappropriately.

It is always wise to do a Google search on the addresses a company uses in their advertising. In the case of The Writers Tree, they use two addresses, one in New York City and another in Florida. Letters to the New York address 415 W 14th St, New York City, NY 10014 comes back as undeliverable.

I personally visited the Florida address, 7901 4th St N, St Petersburg, FL 33702, listed for The Writers Tree. I did not have success finding their office on the building directory. Located at this address is a Registered Agent (suite 300) which may be what The Writers Tree is using for an address. A registered agent provides many services such as setting up a new company's required paperwork, providing a virtual address and accepting and forwarding mail. They provide complete privacy for a company.

Another thing to check

If the company you are dealing with is providing you with articles, blogs or anything that is put on the Internet, check it out. With a published article or blog for example., take one early sentence in the piece and copy it to your web browser.

If the item was published, it will show up in the search. Nowhere can the articles The Writers Tree wrote be found except is on my own website where I PUT THE ARTICLES!!!!

Accolades

When reading the website of the company you are researching, look for accolades that suggest the company is the best or number one. Check out the reviews also, but take those with a grain of salt. There are companies on the Internet that will post positive reviews for you for a small fee. Google search for "how to tell if a product review is false", gives you pointers on how to tell a fake review. If you shop the Internet, you will find this information very useful..

When a company claims to be the best or #1, ask what got them to that place and by who's standards they got there. Get Proof!

Many websites have the scrolling banner that suggests they have an affiliation with these top notch companies. A google search for the company you are researching and the company listed in the banner, will probably come up negative as it may be business that was transacted that would not be reported by Google,

The following information is what a google search for The Writers Tree displays. How do they rank #1. In all fairness they do rank high in Google search for certain keywords such as ghost writing.
